The most devastating drought in 60 years hit Somalia in the horn of African and forced hundreds of
thousands of people to flee with livestock from southern regions where the United Nations declared an official state of famine. Some of them lost their domestic animals while drought claimed many other lives, mainly those of children. The drought also spread to Kenya and Ethiopia where many people fled in search of food and water.
Lagoons, grasses, and hay has dried up because of the drought and a new influx of drought displaced people with their domestic animals have arrived in war-ravaged Mogadishu. The streets of Mogadishu ate filled with cattle which feeds on leftovers thrown onto the streets by restaurants waiters. It is sunset here at the KM 4 junction in the heart of the capital where people are preparing for their iftar meal breaking the dawn-to-dusk fast.
