Holland boss Bert van Marwijk has narrowed down his first shortlist for Euro 2012 to 27 men, the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) announced on Tuesday evening.
After a two day training camp at Hoenderloo in the country’s wooded east next Monday, the Holland manager dropped nine players from his bumper 36-strong preliminary squad. They're Jasper Cillessen (Ajax), Alexander Büttner (Vitesse), Urby Emanuelson (AC Milan), Ola John (FC Twente), Hedwiges Maduro (Valencia), Erwin Mulder (Feyenoord), Nick Viergever (AZ), Stefan de Vrij (Feyenoord) and Georginio Wijnaldum (PSV).
The 27-man squad will fly to Lausanne, Switzerland on Thursday for final preparations for no fewer than four friendly matches. The first of those encounters, away against Bayern Münich, is slated for 22 May. It’s followed by home friendlies against Bulgaria, Slovakia and Northern Ireland.
The Holland manager will name the final 23-man party to travel to Poland and Ukraine before UEFA’s 29 May deadline.
Holland face Denmark, Germany and Portugal in a “group of death” at Euro 2012, which runs from 8 June to 1 July.
