Indonesia team finds crashed Russian jet's black box

A search team found the black box Tuesday of a Russian jet six days after it slammed into a dormant volcano in Indonesia during a promotional flight, killing all 45 on board.

"We found the black box at around 10 this morning," Ketut Parwa, head of the search operation, told reporters near the crash site at Mount Salak in western Java.

"It was found around 100 metres from where we located the tail."

The team of Indonesian searchers and Russian experts had combed the densely forested mountain for days looking for the black box for a window into how the new jet flown by a veteran pilot crashed.

The flight was part of an Asian sales tour to promote the aircraft, a joint venture between Sukhoi and Italy's Alenia Aeronautica, which made its first commercial flight last year.
