Floating fashion in Amsterdam

Dutch designers showed their latest creations on the Canal Catwalk on Monday, a floating fashion show against the backdrop of Amsterdam’s 17th century canal houses. Dutch Fashion Day also popped up in other unexpected places: Sepehr Maghsoudi showed his designs on a tourist canal boat.
Couturier Sheila de Vries was proclaimed Dutch Designer of the Year. The jury praised her professionalism and her warm personality in the Dutch fashion world. She has had a long and successful career, opening a shop in Amsterdam in the late 1970s and designing clothes for Queen Beatrix since 2003.
A number of models also received awards. Tahnee Nikita Frijters was named Dutch Model of 2012.
Next year is the 400th anniversary of Amsterdam’s central canal area and the Dutch Fashion Day organisers are planning a parade of boats through the city centre.
