Controversial young Dutch politician Tofik Dibi is calling for integration policy to be scrapped. The Member of Parliament for the GreenLeft party says successful integration is a matter for individuals, not the government and an integration minister is unnecessary.
In an interview with free news sheet Metro, Dibi also called for the law banning group defamation to be scrapped. This is the law under which populist politician Geert Wilders was charged for his anti-Islam remarks. According to Dibi “It’s bizarre and pre-historic that groups are protected. It’s individuals who should be protected. I want to get rid of this restriction on free speech as quickly as possible."
Tofik Dibi recently made an unsuccessful bid for the leadership of GreenLeft, challenging sitting leader Jolande Sap. He has been placed tenth on the party’s candidate list for September’s parliamentary elections, meaning he must attract a large number of preference votes if he is to retain his seat.
He has launched a personal campaign under the slogan “Free and free-thinking”. Dibi also stressed the importance of skilled immigrants for the Dutch economy in the future. He believes the Dutch labour market, particularly in the health care sector, will be dependent on immigrant labour within the next 20 years.
