The summer edition of Amsterdam International Fashion Week kicked off on Wednesday with an explosion of flowers, sequins and organza in a catwalk show by designer Claes Iversen.
Amsterdam Fashion Week was launched in 2004 with just 3 shows. Since then it has grown into a major event featuring both young designers and established names. This 17th edition will run to five days of shows, exhibitions and parties.
The organisers are hoping that Amsterdam will eventually take its place among the top 5 of Europe’s most influential fashion centres. The fashion world is an important contributor to the Dutch economy, accounting for 17,000 jobs and up to 14 billion Euros annual turnover. Annual exports are worth 4.5 billion Euros.
