Heavy sentencing for the junta

The Special Court for Sierra Leone (SCSL) handed down its first sentences on July 19. The former leaders of the military junta, found guilty on June 20 [IJT-71], received particularly heavy prison sentences before an international jurisdiction. Alex Tamba Brima and Santigie Borbor Kanu were condemned to 50 years imprisonment, while Brima Bazzy Kamara was given a 45-year sentence.
